Another Ripple Late-Week, Temp Jumps Up Next Week

An upper level low will move away Tuesday evening and lose strength in the process. Originally, I thought Southern Illinois would see showers lingering throughout the day Wednesday as moisture wrapped around the backside of the low and tracked through. However, with the storm system weakening, I think we'll end up with a few spotty showers here and there, but by later afternoon we may be seeing the rain come to an end.

Closed low over the Mid-Mississippi Valley Tuesday evening.
As the upper level trough moves east, it sets the stage for a modest 500mb west/northwest flow which will be the driving track for the next storm system set to impact the ILMOKY area. Another weak shortwave will ride through the Plains along a cold front extending from a higher amplitude trough north of the Canadian border. Being on the heels of the upper level trough moving away from mid-week, this one will likely ride from northwest to southeast by the time it gets to the Mississippi Valley. With the shortwave moving south of the ILMOKY area in the westerly flow, moisture will be somewhat limited.

Shortwave can be picked up near the Oklahoma/Arkansas border sliding into the Deep South Friday morning.
Once the late-week shortwave moves away, a ridge will begin to build across the middle of the country. The ridge will push the jetstream back north and set up a southwest flow by the time next week rolls around. The southwest flow will bring a return to warm, humid conditions with afternoon pops possible.
300mb chart next Tuesday morning shows the jetstream north along the Canadian border
with an upper level ridge over the southeastern half of the U.S.
